We have many types of wildlife here in Colorado - everything from the tiny, striped chipmunks that are always on the lookout for crumbs to the elusive lynx. While out on a trail ride, you're apt to spot white-tailed or mule deer; perhaps you'll be lucky enough to spot a magnificent elk or moose, also. You might even see a black bear in the distance. Our official State Mammal is the bighorn sheep with its broad, curled horns - look for herds of them on rocky outcrops or cliffs. That's also where you're most likely to see the little Rocky Mountain goats with their shaggy white coats. It's amazing to watch the tiniest babies leaping effortlessly from one vertical rock face to the next! And don't forget the smaller animals you may come across: spiky porcupines, foxes, jackrabbits and cottontails, raccoons, badgers and a wide variety of squirrels, gophers and other little "skitterers" - the only one we DON'T want to see is a skunk! While enjoying the crystal clear waters of our lakes, rivers and mountain streams, keep an eye open for beaver, muskrat and maybe even river otters or marten. That's in addition to our mountain trout - unless they see you first, of course! Whatever creatures you see, you'll never forget the time you spent up high in the Colorado Rockies. Contact us when you're planning your next trip and you'll experience your most authentic and memorable vacation, ever!
