Monday, January 16, 2012 Blog The Off Season: Winters at a Colorado Dude Ranch Previous Saddle Up Next Secrets There is a beauty in the winter at Black Mountain Ranch that is like no other. Although we close our doors to customers in September that doesn't mean the ranch empties out. Most of our family resides on the property year round. Our horses enjoy greener (and warmer) pastures for the winter, but we stay to enjoy the other side of mountain life. This photograph was captured last weekend on one of our family's snowmobile rides. Some of these pines are lost to the beetle kill that has plagued the Rockies over the past few years. The lumber from these kind of pines make for some beautiful wood when milled and shaped into lumber that will be used on the property buildings or furniture. Beauty in another stage of life for these woods. Winters at our Colorado Dude Ranch are pretty amazing and we feel very lucky to be immersed in the richness of our landscape.
