September 7 Blog Best of Week 14: Kids are Back in School We cannot believe what an amazing August it has been on the ranch! Now that summer is coming to an end and the kids are back to school, we begin to wind it all down with our last month of the season. Week 14 marked the beginning of our final four weeks of Adults at the ranch. Twenty four very enthusiastic guests were the ranch last week. It was a great time with a ton of competition and nights in the saloon! A few guests competed against one of the wranglers (who rode bareback with ...
August 31 Blog Best of Week 13: Last Family Week of the Season! This past week was our last family week of the summer season. We had 38 guests (full house!) and apart from a short sharp bit of hail and rain on Monday the weather was perfect for ridin' and ropin'. The kids were amazing and pitched in with all the activities, including washing the dishes at pack camp! Who knew kids would be so excited to help out while on vacation. We also hosted another family from the Wounded Warriors Vail Veterans program. Ryan, a former marine helicopter pilot with ...
August 30 Blog Steamboat Springs Rodeo! Yeehaw! The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo is a rockin', buckin', wild ride! During the summer season, all our guests get to experience the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo every Friday night. What we've got up here is a very special event, as the area is rich in cowboy and cowgirl history and the rodeo is the most successful weekly rodeo in the US. It's a tradition that's been going on for over 45 years up in our ski country. Although the more organized event has been going on for 45 years, ...
August 11 Blog Best of Week 11: Kids Galore! Whew, what a full house we had last week! Over 40 guests stayed with us, including lots of families with young kids, most of whom were having their first experience at a dude ranch! The kids immediately fell in love with their horses! They especially enjoyed the 'Pony Spa Session' we put on in the corral. This is where the kids get a chance to brush, braid, and paint their ponies before competing in the arena games. By the end of a week filled with riding, shooting, rafting, feeding ...
August 9 Blog Vail Veterans at Black Mountain Ranch Just over a week ago we hosted 14 people from the Vail Veterans program. The group included young men and their families who have been hurt serving our country. The group included four double amputees, but this didn't stop anyone from enjoying the dude ranch! We took them for a two hour ride and they all had a great time. Black Mountain Ranch is proud to be able to give something back to these wounded heroes.
